2010 ACE Awards
Date: April 2010
Subject: Special Pops ACE Awards
"Meaningful" takes on a whole new dimension in the hands of 11 volunteers recently recognized for the role they play in carrying out Special Pops' mission to provide a meaningful year-round tennis experience for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Special Pops organization. Without them, we could not deliver our programs. Each year, the Special Pops Board of Directors recognizes those volunteers whose Attitude, Character, and Extra Effort go well beyond the normal expectations for volunteers.
On Wednesday February 3rd the Special Pops Board of Directors hosted its annual recognition dinner for the 2009 ACE Award recipients at the Racquet Club of the South. The evening was filled with expressions of appreciation by the Board members for the outstanding contribution each recipient makes to the mission of Special Pops Tennis.
The final award for the evening was presented to Ann Marie, John, and Jimmy Dusek. They are the first recipients of the Doug Gillispie Family Award established in 2009 in loving memory of Doug Gillispie who was a tireless volunteer and strong supporter of the Special Pops mission as a husband, father and friend to all.
The ACE Class of 2009 includes: Mark Gupton, Jane Chance, Valerie Mercier, Julie Hansen, Etrudy Mitchell, Lacy Barnes, Ken Thompson, Arjun Dhir, Steve Lottinger, Chuck Rae, and Shelbre Hinson (Athlete of the Year).
On behalf of the Special Pops Board of Directors and the Special Pops athletes and their families - a huge Special Pops "High Five" to the 2009 ACE Award recipients and to all our wonderful volunteers!
Sincerely,
Jim Hamm
Executive Director
